Power BI date slicer only shows dates with data
Let us see how we can add a date slicer only to show the dates along with data presented in the Power Bi report canvas in Power Bi.
In this example, I have used the sales table data, to filter the based on the date slicer visual in Power Bi.
- Open the Power Bi desktop, and load the data into it using the get data option. Once the data has been loaded, create a power bi visualization by selecting the data fields from the fields pane.
- Now, Click on the slicer icon presented in the visualization pane, and in the slicer visual, drag and drop the Order Date field name from the field pane for which you filter it.
- Select the stacked column chart from the visualization, drag and drop the product field and sales fields from the field pane as below:
- Now select the date from the date slicer by month. Based on the filtered month it displays the Products in the stacked bar chart.

Power BI date slicer date range
Let us see how we can add a date slicer with a date range in the Power Bi report canvas in Power Bi.
Follow the below steps to add the date slicer with the date range:
- In this example, I have used the sales table data, to filter the based on the date slicer visual in Power Bi.
- Open the Power Bi desktop, and load the data into it using the get data option. Once the data has been loaded, create a power bi visualization by selecting the data fields from the fields pane.
- Now, Click on the slicer icon presented in the visualization pane, and in the slicer visual, drag and drop the Order Date field name from the field pane for which you filter it.
- In the Date Slicer, by default, it is set to the Between option to display the range of dates between the start and end date.
- In the below screenshot, you can see the date slicer visual between the date ranges. Based on the filtered date that displays the Products in the clustered bar chart.

Power BI date slicer multiple dates
Here we will how we can filter on multiple dates using a single date slicer in Power Bi,
In this example, we will filter multiple date values like order date and shipped date using the single date slicer in Power Bi
- Open the Power Bi desktop, and load the data into it using the get data option. Once the data has been loaded, create a power bi visualization by selecting the data fields from the fields pane.
- Select a Power BI slicer visual and a Power BI table visual from the visualization. In the slicer visual order date field and in the table visual drag and drop the Product name, Order date, and Shipped date fields from the field pane.
- In the Date Slicer, filter the date value, and in the table visual you can see that it filters the selected order date field and the shipped date field value as below:
