In this example, I have used the sales table data, to filter the based on the dropdown slicer visual in Power Bi.

  • Open the Power Bi desktop, and load the data into it using the get data option. Once the data has been loaded, create a power bi visualization by selecting the data fields from the fields pane.
  • Now, Click on the slicer icon presented in the visualization pane, and in the slicer visual, drag and drop the Product Name field name from the field pane for which you filter it.
  • Expand the down arrow presented in the slicer visual and choose the dropdown option as shown below.

  • Expand the drop-down and select any product from the drop-down slicer visual.
  • In the below screenshot, you can see that the stacked column chart visually displays the data based on the drop-down slicer selection.

Power BI slicer dropdown multiple selections

Let us see how we can select multiple selections in the dropdown slicer in Power Bi.

Yes, it is possible to select multiple options in the dropdown slicer in Power Bi.

  • Load the data into it using the get data option. Once the data has been loaded, create a power bi visualization by selecting the data fields from the fields pane.
  • Now, Click on the slicer icon presented in the visualization pane, and in the slicer visual, Expand the down arrow presented in the slicer visual and choose the dropdown option drag and drop the Product Name field name from the field pane for which you filter it.

  • To select multiple selections, click on the Ctrl key from the Keys and select the dropdown slicer selections.
  • In the below screenshot, you can see that the multiple options selected in the drop-down visual values are displayed in the stacked column chart.

Let us see how we can activate the search bar in the drop-down slicer in Power Bi,

There are two ways that we can activate the search bar in the dropdown slicer,

First way:

  • Load the data into it using the get data option. Once the data has been loaded, create a power bi visualization by selecting the data fields from the fields pane.
  • Now, Click on the slicer icon presented in the visualization pane, and in the slicer visual, drag and drop the Product Name field name from the field pane for which you filter it.
  • Select the ellipses presented in the drop-down slicer and click on the Search option like below:

  • In the below screenshot, you can see that the search bar has been added to the dropdown slicer in Power Bi.

This is one way to add the search bar in the dropdown slicer in Power Bi.

Second way:

  • Load the data into it using the get data option. Once the data has been loaded, create a power bi visualization by selecting the data fields from the fields pane.
  • To add another search bar, click on the Ctrl +F key from the Keys and you can see that the search bar has been added to the Power Bi dropdown slicer.

Power BI can’t change the slicer to dropdown

  • No, it is possible to change the slicer to a dropdown slicer in Power Bi.
  • By default, when we add the Slicer visual to the Power Bi report it displays the list slicer.
  • Expanding the down arrow presented in the slicer we can see two options, They are list and dropdown.
  • Select the dropdown option as shown below, so that it will change from the list slicer to the dropdown slicer.
